Discovery Phase
During the discovery phase of the NKSJA, workshops were held with local residents, community organisations, and other stakeholders. These sessions revealed the wealth of personal and group archives in the area, as well as key concerns about ownership, access, and long-term preservation.
It was clear from these discussions that any digital solution would need to be inclusive, secure, and give contributors control over how their materials are shared and accessed.
While participating as a member of the Discovery Phase team, Jacob Rety identified Solid Pods, Web 3.0, the semantic web, and decentralised, interoperable technology as strong candidates for meeting the requirements of the digital archive.
As Solid infrastructure and decentralised technology are still in early development and unfamiliar to most people, Jacob set out to provide a demo digital archive to demonstrate its practical use and to introduce others to this new “layer of the web,” as described by Sir Tim Berners-Lee.
